A Red Sox Fan Tries to Curse The Yankees By Placing A Red Sox Shirt Underneath Some Concrete At The New Yankee Stadium...

This is crazy, if you have not heard the story -- from Youtube:

A construction worker helping to build the new Yankees Stadium in New York is a Boston Red Sox fan -- so he buried a Red Sox T-shirt underneath the concrete used for the visitors' clubhouse (it has been since reported by the Yankees' PR Department to be not true, ala an urban legend - who knows.

However, this attempt to curse the Yankees, according to baseball history, will not work. Countdown's Keith Olbermann explains.

Alas, this is a great story. You could not make this up...

O's Get Revenge Against Buchholz; Sordid Baseball Stories in the Mid-Atlantic Region

The Orioles went into the heart of Red Sox Nation last night, and after a torrid week where they were swept by the Jays and mired in a five losing streak – finally, a win. Now, we have once again moved within a game of .500, with our record at 46-47.

Baltimore beat Boston, 7-3 and they roughed up Clay Buchholz, who we all know no-hit the Orioles last season. This time, he looked nothing better than average as the Orioles took advantage of his shaky performance after being called up from the minors. Brian Roberts had three hits to lead the charge — almost missing the cycle (he needed a home run) and lithe Brandon Fahey had two hits along ! with two RBIs, along with Melvin Mora.

Oriole starter, Brian Burres — who seems to be great with five days or plus rest — stymied Boston for a little more than six innings as he three runs on six hits for his team-leading seventh win. As it has been this week, the 'pen made things interesting as Jim Johnson was once gain thrust in a clutch situation and got himself into some trouble; alas, George Sherrill came into the game to strike out Kevin Youkilis to end the game for his 28th save.

Ah, potential disaster averted.

The last two days have not been good in the off-field news for Major League Baseball in the Mid-Atlantic region. Well, first off,the Orioles fired a high-ranking scout after Major League Baseball's newly formed investigative unit linked him to a gambling probe which was reported by the Baltimore Sun.
The fired scout, Alan Marr, was national cross-checker! for the Orioles and the top person listed in the team's scouting directory. The gambling investigation that led to his firing first was reported Friday by SI.com.

MLB's investigative unit is still actively investigating scouts as part of the gambling probe. There has been no indication games were fixed, the person with knowledge of the probe said.

The gambling investigation involved bets primarily on football, a second person familiar with the probe said, also on condition of anonymity because he was not allowed to speak publicly.

"I am confident that both the authorities and our investigative team working together have determined the scope of it, and it will not be any broader than already has been reported," said Bob DuPuy, baseball's chief operating officer.

Andy MacPhail, the Orioles president for baseball operations, declined to go into the reasons for Marr's firing.

"He's no longer our employee. That's all I can say," Mac! Phail said.I'm not surprised any of this happened, and considering the large amount of money that sports provides for those with the opportunity, it was just a matter of time before something like this was uncovered.

However, this case also shows that the majority of those in baseball do maintain some integrity and decorum with their job, and hopefully this investigation will not uncover anyone else involved with the Orioles or baseball.

Second, down the road in Washington, there are quite a few sordid tales perhaps being brought to the surface -- this time with the Nationals.

The organization has taken a beating in the Washington Post the past few days concerning the viewership on MASN and also the Lerner Family (which owns the organization) withholding rent payments because they contend the city didn't finish their new stadium on time, and ESPN uncovered yesterday that team Vice President and General Manager Jim Bowden and consultant Jose Rijo recently were interviewed by the FBI and Major League Baseball concerning the signings of players in the Dominican Republic.

Right now, Washington baseball is going through some growing pains as the team is trying to develop a core for the future and the product on the field is rather poor, but this team has had some awful publicity this week.

Now it looks like Bowden and Rijo were just questioned, not implicated with anything and perhaps the investigation may spread to all! 29 other teams, but right now down in the Nation's Capital - when it rains, it pours. Hopefully, everyone will cooperate, nothing is found and things were done in an ethical fashion and everyone can move on and conduct business as usual.

Let's hope that they don't get a permanent PR beating for these issues, aside from the product on the field.

Again, there's so much money in sports now that I am not surprised by any of this.

The last thing anyone needs is baseball to be even more soiled by tales that seem to be more in line with what happens in the NBA, mob stories, or big-time college sports.

Burnett to Atlanta; Markakis and Pedroia

It looks like the Braves may be in the hunt for Burnett, and may be ready to offer him what he wants -- a five year deal.
Via the New York News: Just as they were finalizing a trade for Javier Vazquez, the Braves were preparing a five-year offer for A.J. Burnett, according to sources. Burnett, considered the No.2 starter on the market, was expected to wait for Sabathia to make the first move. But with the Yankees, Red Sox and Blue Jays all apparently hesitant to give Burnett a fifth year, the 31-year-old might jump at Atlanta's offer before Sabathia makes his decision.
The Braves need pitching and want to get back into the NL East hunt. At this point, who knows what happen and if Burnett may use the Braves to increase his price, or he if he'll sign. With times being so uncertain and the oft-injured hurler being signed to his 37th birthday, he may sign with Atlanta.

However, I think the Braves ma! y be taking a huge risk with Burnett and considering the conservative nature in which they hand out contracts, signing him may not be wise and it was a definite surprise to hear this.

***

While many are waiting for news to come out from the Warehouse about any important signings, moves, etc., the Red Sox went ahead and signed Dustin Pedroia to a six-year, $40.5 million contract extension, with an option for 2015, that takes them through three arbitration and two free-agent seasons. Smart move for the Sox; thus, what does this for Nick Markakis and the Orioles.

Nothing at all.

A Markakis deal will get done at some point; however, with the winter meetings on the horizon along with the team trying to find arms for the rotation, as well as a shortstop (Khalil Greene?) the Orioles had! to put the discussions on the back burner.

Folks, the sky isn't falling yet; therefore, we should not worry. Then again, it seems important the team sign simply sign the right fielder for credibility purposes amongst the fanbase, and he wants to be here, so let's let the discussion -- no matter how slow it may be -- take its course.

Jay Gibbons Signed By The Marlins

Yesterday, former Oriole Jay Gibbons signed a minor league deal with the Florida Marlins on Tuesday & should be battling for a roster spot during spring training.

He's still getting paid by the Orioles; however, his play in his stint in the Atlantic League and in the Caribbean, plus a chat with Jeff Conine -- former Marlin/Oriole and a front office member for Florida -- may have given him an opening to play Major League Baseball again.

Well, a lot of know how I feel about Jay -- he might have been a better player because of PED's; however, his treatment after the Mitchell Report was not due to being caught being a steroid user, but because of his performance in 2006 & 2007.

Pitchers and Catchers Report: Yahoo's Jeff Passan Gives His Take on The O's...

Today, pitchers and catchers report to camp down in Fort Lauderdale, and after what's transpired this week news-wise in baseball, it's a welcome relief. For the most part, all 30 teams should be up and running in either Arizona or Florida this weekend. Position players should be in their respective camps by mid-week.

I guess the other semi-news worthy event that took place was the Scott Moore cleared waivers, and will be in camp with an invitation to Spring Training. Unless he makes the team -- which may be a long shot with Freel, Wigginton on the squad -- assume he'll find his way to Norfolk soon enough.

Finally, Yahoo's Jeff Passan in Season Divisional Season Preview (this one for the A! L East, obviously), gives his take on the Baltimore. His review is very promising -- especially towards Wieters and the future -- and goes quickly into the key storylines heading into spring training...

Hayden Penn out of the Baltimore Organization; Andino an Oriole...

The big news from yesterday -- perhaps minor in the wide of scheme of things -- is that formerly prized prospect, Hayden Penn was traded to the Florida Marlins for infielder Robert Andino.

What's the big deal with Andino? Not much. He's simply a nice, slick fielding fielder who's your typical 'all glove, no bat' type of guy. Obviously with Hanley Ramirez at shortstop and Dan Uggla at second, he would seldom find himself on the field; plus, he's also out of minor league options. As a result of the trade, veteran Chris Gomez was released, and he's not done much with bat in Grapefruit League action; furthermore, the move all but signifies that the Orioles are indeed getting younger and trying to find players who fit in the general plan.

Bergesen Delivers Again; 2110 Eutaw St Review...

The Baltimore Orioles finished their last game before all the All-Star break with a victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday, 4-2, thanks to a nice outing by youngster Brad Bergesen and two RBI's by Brian Roberts. George Sherrill -- who perhaps deserved some All-Star consideration this year -- earned his 20th save of the season.

Bergesen is 6-3, and one has to think considering where he started, plus what he's done in the majors, one has to think he's the potential ace of the staff. It's nothing short of amazing what he's done in the majors, and one has to think he's definitely here to stay. Bergesen may not the be the best pitcher in the stable of the much-hyped youngsters -- but he throws strikes, pitches to contact, and actually goes fairly deep into games, something that every team looks for out of a hurler. He'! s definitely someone we should look for to get Rookie of the Year consideration.

Baltimore took a 2-0 lead thanks to a RBI-double by Brian Roberts and an RBI-single by Nick Markakis. They look a 3-0 lead in the sixth inning off a solo home run by Oscar Salazar -- his second of the season. Toronto came within one of the lead, 3-2, in the seventh inning as Dave Delucci and Marco Scutaro drove in runs and knocked Bergesen out of the game.

Mathieu Schneider Traded To Montreal

Per TSN: The Atlanta Thrashers have traded defenceman Mathieu Schneider and a conditional draft pick in 2009 (based on how well Montreal does in this season's playoffs) to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for second (2009) and third round (2010) picks.

My take:
The Thrashers clear cap space and continue to pile up on draft picks. They know that they aren't going to make the playoffs - they are sellers for sure (look for other players to also be moved such as Colby Armstrong, Niclas Havelid & Slava Kozlov).

The Habs who have been struggling (3-7, in their last 10) bring back Schneider for his second stint in Montreal. "We were looking for a defenseman who could contribute offensively. Mathieu, an experienced player with a lot of offensive upside, will bring depth to our core group of defensemen and will be an asset on our powerplay," said Bob Gainey. That's exactly what the Thrashers said at the beggining of the season when they made a trade with the Anaheim Ducks for him. However, Schneider has had a disappointing season so far in Atlanta & both he and the Canadiens hope that he can turn it around.

Good trade for both teams, they are heading in two diffe! rent directions, each have a different set of goals heading in! to the N HL trade deadline.

Temporary Solution To Yahoo Fantasy Hockey Glitch

If you are in a Yahoo Fantasy Hockey league then you may be experiencing technical difficulties in viewing your team's roster page. As a result you are unable to set your lines. I found this temporary solution on the Yahoo Fantasy Hockey message boards and it worked for me.

If you go to your browser View option at top. Click "Page Style" , select "No Page Style", you can adjust your roster. It's ugly but it works. Not sure what the problem is though.

Hasil Pertandingan | Bundesliga 2009/2010 | Schweinsteiger, Bayern Kurang Cerdas

bastianschweinsteiger

Kualifikasi Piala Dunia 2009/2010 | Italia Menang, Gilardino Cetak Hat-trick

Gilardino
Pimpinan klasemen Grup 8 zona Eropa, Italia, nyaris saja dipermalukan Siprus.

Tiga menit usai jeda, Siprus menggandakan keunggulan lewat Chrysostomos Michail.

Tiga menit berselang, Gilardino beraksi lagi. Setelah kepala, si penyerang Fiorentina membuktikan ketajaman kakinya usai sepakannya dari jarak dekat m! embuat skor jadi imbang 2-2.

Italia lantas berbalik! menang lewat gol, lagi-lagi, Gilardino.

No Stadium Expansion Yet

By Jaymes Payten-Marsh
For THBN

Daniel Levy has stated that White Hart Lane will not be redeveloped until the first-team squad has reached its potential, and we have a new and improved training center and academy.

The Spurs chairman has also said that any future development depends solely on the transport authorities upgrading their systems in and around the Tottenham area.

With the likes of Arsenal, who will move into there new 60,000 capacity stadium, Manchester United who will expand Old Trafford so as to seat 75,000, Newcastle's St. James' Park, which currently seats 52,000 and will rise to 70,000, and Chelsea also looking to expand Stamford Bridge into an 80,000 seated m! ega-stadium, it does look like Tottenham will be left far behind.

Old Trafford has a turnover of around £31 million per season from gate receipts alone. White Hart Lane has a turnover of only £11 million per season.

Unless the board does decide to move the expansion forward, Tottenham Hotspur will not be able to compete with the top group of clubs.

The wage structure is based upon turnover. If Spurs had a larger stadium, they could attract the Scott Parker's of the world. With players demanding more and more per week, Spurs could find themselves out-gunned by clubs that are prepared to pay the players what they want.

Spurs Agree Fee For Gomes

Tottenham Hotspur have announced that they have reached an agreement with PSV's world-class Brazilian keeper, Gomes.

The transfer fee, reported to be around the £8 million mark, should go through by the weekend.

The move is subject to a medical and agreeing personal terms over the move. Gaining a work-permit shouldn't be a problem either.

This surely spells the end of Paul Robinson's career at the Lane.

It's been reported that Spurs have begrudgingly accepted Aston Villa's £3.2 million bid for England's former number one.

Tottenham wanted nearer the £5 million mark, but Villa wouldn't budge on their fee.

If Robbo does leave, we wish him the best of luck.

Real want Spurs star

Guillem Balague has stated that Real Madrid boss, Juande Ramos, has handed a list of players that he wants to his Director of Football, Predrag Mijatovi?. The list has two Premier League players on it; Jermaine Jenas, and Jermaine Pennant.

Well, after all, Jermaine Jenas was one of the only players to have not spoken out against Ramos. He was also made captain in the absence of King, but lost his vice-captaincy to Woodgate upon Redknapp taking over.

It looks like there's more to this rumour than meets the eye as Real Madrid have suggested that Jenas could be signed within this winter transfer window to play alongside Lassana Diarra, Real's latest acquisition from Portsmouth.

The fee is anyone's guess. If Downing is rated at £15 million, then Jenas should be to.

Gagal Dengan Cissokho, Milan Beralih Ke John Arne Riise

Alhasil, fokus perhatian Milan pun berubah. Dilaporkan laroma24.it, Milan kini sedang berupaya mendatangkan John Arne Riise dari Roma.

Kejar Pirlo, Atletico Saingi Chelsea

Milan, Ini Ada Adriano

JENEIRO - Edin Dzeko gagal didapat, Luis Fabiano masih tanda tanya. Bila ingin mendapat ujung tombak lewat negosiasi yang nyaman, AC Milan ada baiknya melirik Adriano Leite. Mengapa?

Huntelaar Diwanti-wanti Kluivert

-an.
Namun Kluivert bukan bermaksud menakut-nakuti Huntelaar. "Saya berharap! Huntelaar melakukan semuanya dengan baik.
Saya paham bah! wa dia t ahu bagaimana caranya mencetak banyak gol.

Dunga Minta Media Berhenti Kritik Ronaldinho

Gillett rejects takeover talk

Widespread reports have suggested Prince Faisal bin Fahd bin Abdullah al-Saud's F6 investment company was planning to make a major investment in the club and possibly gain Gillett's 50 per cent stakeholding.

However, Gillett, who invited Prince Faisal bin Fahd bin Abdullah to last weekend's game with Hull, insists the meeting was regards establishing football academies in Saudi Arabia and NASCAR in the Middle East, and not any investment in Liverpool.

Gillett and co-owner Tom Hicks confirmed in a statement on Tuesday that they want to attract outside investment for the club and Gillett was happy with his talks with the F6 group.

"We had a marvellous meeting with them on Saturday and they were impressed with the club, but the academies in Saudi Arabia and North Africa and their possible involvement in NASCAR-type racing in the Middle East were the only items on the agenda," Gillett told thesportbriefing.com.

"We have entered into a ! period of exclusive discussions regarding the possibility of introducing NASCAR-type racing to the Middle East, but the memorandum of understanding does not cover anything else."

Opportunities
F6 director Barry Didato confirmed they are exploring commercial opportunities with Liverpool, but that their discussions "does not involve the possibility of an immediate investment in Liverpool", with any possible transaction being "several months away".

"As far as investment in Liverpool is concerned, that would be a long way off. A lot of people have jumped the gun and any possible investment would be several months away," said Didato.

"The agreement signed (at the weekend) leaves the door open for it (possible future investment in Liverpool), but that was certainly not the focus of it."

Didato added that no talks have been staged between F6 and Hicks, who, like Gillett, owns 50 per cent of Liverpool.

"George has a partne! r there and has his own issues to work through," Didato added.! "Mr Hic ks will also have his own issues and we are not sure what he wants to do.

"Another issue is the club's debt (of around ?45million). Prince Faisal will not put forward investment capital to just clean up a balance sheet. He would only want to use money to take the club forward. It would be long-term money."

Didato said that Prince Faisal would have an open mind regarding the ultimate stake he could hold in the club.

"His Highness is open to anything and is open to being a minority shareholder, but he has tremendous favourability towards the brand and institution of Liverpool," noted Didato.

"His Highness would need to be invited by George and it would have to be at the right time for George. There would need to be a shared vision between all of the parties."

Buffon yang Tinggi vs Gol Abad Ini Ribery

Munich,-

Juve kini berada di posisi tiga klasemen Grup A berbekal poin dua. (*)

MANCINI:SE VINCE,ADDIO INTER

Aspettatevi un altro dopo-Liverpool. PerchĂ© i vulcani vivi, prima o poi, tornano a ruggire. Come altre volt! e. Io difendo i miei giocatori". Epicentro: Parma.

ADRI E L'INTER VA,1-0 ALL'ANORTHOSIS

BECKS:NIENTE UEFA E ADDIO PIU' VICINO

Ora perĂČ i dubbi sembrano essersi sciolti.

Quadrato, serio e professionale. In poche parole: Gian Paolo Montali. Xabi Grateful to Liverpool for everything

Xabi had become the Legend for all the Liverpool Fans. All Liverpool Fans were sad to see him leave the club.Still everyone has the same amount of respect for the KOP favourite.Everyone will always remember Xabi at Liverpool.

Xabi Alonso has told AS that he will always be grateful to Liverpool after learning a lot at the Merseyside club.

Alonso joined Liverpool from Real Sociedad in 2004 and won the Champions League in his first season, scoring Liverpool's equaliser in the memorable fin! al against Milan in Istanbul. During his time at Anfield the Basque midfielder made 199 appearances including two Champions League finals.

"I will always be grateful to Liverpool, it is a very special club. I have learned a lot about the history and philosophy of the club," said Alonso.

"I have grown personally and professionally. The experience helped me to grow on the field, and I learned from the experience of playing in Europe and fighting for titles."

Alonso now looks to the future with Madrid, after making a €34 million switch earlier this month and says he is keen to play and let his ability on the field show his value to his new employers.

He also spoke of hs admiration for similar midfielders like former blanco Fernando Redondo and Pep Guardiola, now manager of rivals Barcelona. Alonso says he learned a lot watching these players.

"Both players made their mark with Madrid and Barcelona. T! hey played in the same position as me and i noted a lot of thi! ngs they did," he added.

Terry welcomes 'huge boost'

Fabio Capello's Three Lions booked a place at the 2010 finals in South Africa with a 5-1 thrashing of Croatia at Wembley on Wednesday.

England now have two games remaining of their qualifying campaign, and four friendlies, in which Capello is expected to experiment with his line-up.

Terry believes that will prove a major advantage for his international boss when the competitive matches of the World Cup begin next summer.

He said: "Qualifying early is a huge boost for us. We then give ourselves an awful lot of time where the manager can try different formations and different players for the World Cup.

"It will be perfect for the manager to maybe go ahead and try players that maybe deserve their chance."

Praise
Terry has also reiterated his praise for Capello following the Italian's impressive work in restoring the fortunes of English football.

The Chelsea defender said: "Fabio has brought a lot of stabili! ty. When he came in, we were at a low point in our careers and as a nation collectively.

"He has installed a lot of confidence. He has come in from day one and told us exactly how he wants to play. He has believed in us.

"To have a manager to come in and believe in us so much, after what happened before, has given us the confidence and trust in him and his formations, the players he selects, and the training he does."

Terry added: "I think when Fabio first came in we realised it was going to take time. With the series of friendlies, when he first came on board, we got things out of our system.

"He told the lads how he wanted us to play. After games we sat down, as we still do now, and went through things to try and improve things."

Sri Lanka ease to series victory

Third one-day international, Dambulla:

Sri Lanka 289-4 (46.3 ovs) beat Pakistan 288-8 (50 ovs) by six wickets

Mahela Jayawardene (left) and Upul Tharanga powe! red Sri Lanka to victory
It was Jayawardene's 11th one-day hundred and Tharanga's 10th fifty

A superb 123 by Mahela Jayawardene set up a comfortable six-wicket win for Sri Lanka over Pakistan which gave them an unassailable 3-0 lead in the series.

The tourists made 288-8 in their 50 overs, including 66 from Umar Akmal, brother of wicket-keeper Kamran.

But Jayawardene's belligerent ton - which included 14 fours and a six - coupled with Upul Tharanga's 76, set up a 202-run opening wicket partnership.

Despite losing wickets, Sri Lanka eased home with 21 balls to spare.

Pakistan had made ! their hi ghest total of the series, despite a middle-order slide in which three wickets fell for 27 runs.

Muttiah Muralitharan, who had ended Shahid Afridi's exciting cameo, then removed Umar, the ball after being hit for six by the 19-year-old right-handed batsman.

All-rounder Abdul Razzaq hit two sixes in a rapid 30, and Rana Naved-ul-Hasan, back in the fold after ending his association with the rebel Indian Cricket League was unbeaten on 30 after also slamming two maximums.

It gave Pakistan the highest score in 28 previous internationals at the ground dating back to March 2001, but the superb Sri Lankan opening stand ensured that record did not last long.

It was Jayawardene's first one-day century for two years and only the second time he has opened the innings.

On the only other occasion he opened for the Sri Lankans in a one-day international he was out for a duck against Zimbabwe.

His last hundred was for Asia against Africa in the Afro-Asia Cup in Chennai in June 2007, and his last for Sri Lanka had been in April of that year.

After the double hundred partnership, which was recorded inside 34 overs, the two openers departed in successive overs.

It became three wickets in 12 balls when Thilan Samaraweera gave Saeed Ajmal a return catch, but skipper Kumar Sangakkara saw his team to victory.

The Sri Lanka captain insisted there were improvements to be made and said: "In this series and the Tests we have h! ad a few situations where we showed a lack of maturity by not really closing the door on Pakistan.

"But we've shown a lot of heart and hunger to come back in those situations and turn matches around.

"Every single player is not really satisfied that he's really there yet.

"But as a team, there's a really good feeling and everyone is really bonding well together.

"When you're winning it becomes easy and with a team that's trying really hard it becomes easier.

"But these are the good times and we have got to plan for the bad times and ensure we have the reserves and the mental and physical strengths to go through the bad patches as well."

Counterpart Younus Khan said: "I thought we had a good total, but that opening partnership took the game away from us.

"Our fielding was pretty ordinary ! and it w as another opportunity lost. But it's important to focus on the positives.

"With Umar's performances we now have a fairly good set of players and a decent combination."
